The Wrath Of Mom

This is our patriarch, Don Bob

We met our triplet friends at the park yesterday.  Don was there in his wheelchair.

Greg walked up to him and said, "What's up, Ironside?"

Don is still not walking since the go kart accident on Christmas morning.  He had surgery a few weeks ago and this is the hardware he has in his leg now.

OUCH!!!!

Their insurance runs out soon and they have to start paying COBRA at a 1000 bucks a month.  Greg told him he should make a sign that he's homeless and go sit in an intersection.  We hear those guys make a couple hundred dollars a day!!!

He was kidding, SORT OF!

Laura and Don have had the worst string of bad luck that I've ever seen in my life.  Two days ago, their boys were playing with the neighborhood kids when one of them picked up a rock, threw it at Jaxon, and broke his brand new adult front tooth off.

Okay, lawyer friends, isn't the brat's parents responsible for paying for the tooth to get repaired?

If you say yes, then do not tell me that if Gregory teaches the younger boys to do dangerous stuff, I'm responsible.

Look at the boys.  They're like, if Gregory can do it, I bet I can do it!!!

This is where I swoop in and screech, "GREGORY, GET DOWN!"

Amanda was so happy to have the girls to boss around.  She loves being in charge.

My girls are so helpful with the younger girls.  When you are all born at the same time, you don't really get the chance to mentor the younger ones.  We can't really count Austin because the age span wasn't enough that they even remember not having him.  They were babies themselves.

Speaking of Austin, my boys have been horribly defiant lately.  I am cracking down on them big time.

The only thing you ever need to know about me is that I will put you in timeout right in the middle of the park, the store, or anywhere else for that matter.  I am THAT MEAN.  If I tell you not to go in the sprinklers because we are going to the store right after we leave, I mean it.  Don't get wet!!!!

The temptation of sprinklers for a six year old boy is greater than the Wrath Of Mom.  Laura's boys were so soaking wet, they couldn't even walk in their jeans.

Okay, I am happy to report that I'm sending them back to the government training center, aka school, today before I start making them copy the whole dictionary.  I think the music teacher is on to something.

It is so nice to know I am not the only parent out there with defiant kids. My son has been going through that lately too, he will be 8 in April, I'm hoping it passes quickly because it has been very hard for me to want to take him to his scout dinner this weekend because of his behavior!

I once had to institute a time-out on the pavement right in front of Target. Got a lot of raised eyebrows over that one. Hooray for mean moms! ;-)

Seriously, you have a liability umbrella in place, right?

I'm not a lawyer but I say yes, the parents of the rock thrower should pay to have the tooth fixed. What parent, who found out their child did something like that wouldn't offer to pay for it???
Mean moms rule! I've grounded a child when we had plans to go to the park and instead of punishing everyone by staying home the groundee had to sit on a bench and watch everyone else play.

Heck, yeah, we do!!!! Umbrella policies are cheap.

I'm the meanest mom too. My 4 yo gets time out in public. I don't care what evil looks I get. He'll learn to listen to me, dangit.

I used to put my kids in time out in public when they where little, I was super mean. Now that they are teenagers they put me in time out in public when they say I embarrass them (which is all the time)! I mean come on who doesn't talk to perfect strangers for no apparent reason??? Or tell the kid behind the AMC movie counter that they should offer caffeine free soda followed by talking to the manager about the freezing theater??? How is that embarrassing? :-)

..."Austin, you are in time out. And, hang on a second while I take your picture and put it up on the internet. I learned this from that guy that shot his daughter's laptop computer."

Thanks to you I just ordered glasses for $35!! Woohoo! Thanks for the ad! :) I'm so psyched after shopping around and getting ridiculous quotes. I don't even NEED them that bad it will just help when I'm tired and my eyes get all blurry. Anyway--thanks!! I didn't know these websites existed before your glasses drama. Your blog is changing lives!!!!! haha!! :)

Yep, the parents should be responsible for the tooth. The hard part, though, is if they don't agree to pay when asked nicely, then you have to sue them, which is entirely unpleasant and probably not worth the hassle. It would probably be small claims court, would probably be pro se, they would probably blow it off and get a default judgment entered against them; then you have the pain of trying to collect. Sorry to be Debbie Downer, but the system really is not victim friendly! Best bet is to ask nicely (or not so nicely) and put on a little social pressure if necessary.

Also, I am mean! :)

Also, please remind me of the super glasses website.

I don't have a clue how the sprinklers "work" in your neck of the woods, but in my neck of the woods- they use reclaimed water which is totally not safe to play in.. I found out the hard way when my son got Camplobactor GI infection and the infectious disease doc told us to never let em play in city sprinklers.
Just a thought from one mom to another. Love you guys-

Emily- What the heck? I paid $200 plus dollars for my glasses and I can't even see out of them. I don't choose those ads, they just pop up based on your internet browsing history. So if that works out for you, let me know!!!!! I'm jealous!

I miss that amazing park!!!!!!!! Waahhh.......

And our renter's insurance covers if someone gets injured at our house.

Oh that's so funny about the ads. I'm so clueless. I thought they were generated based on YOUR content, not my history. CREEPY!!! I was wondering, wow, that place is advertising everywhere all of a sudden! haha!! I'm not so smart. But yes, we got some glasses for our oldest for about $30 a month ago from the other place, zennioptical. Worked out great! Glasses prices are crazy. What a bummer yours aren't working. the last time he got glasses, they would replace the lenses w/ a different RX within a month if you needed it. I don't know if that's normal, but that's how Eye Masters works. We actually went back to them 2 months later with a new RX and they replaced them free. I was so glad! Anyway.......good luck! It would be nice to be able to see, I bet....

If the rock-throwing kid's parents have homeowners' insurance, that might cover the cost of the dental repair. Start with a formal letter to the parents, even by certified mail providing contact information and specifying the injury and the date, and conclude with, "Please forward this letter to your insurance company or agent," and that if there is no response within 30 days, the matter will be turned over to an attorney. If all goes well, there will be a call from a very nice insurance adjuster who will begin the process of asking for the dental records and cost of the repair and will negotiate a settlement to cover that cost. No need for a lawyer or courts unless there's no response within 30 days from the formal letter. When a claim is reasonable, insurance companies like to settle things quickly, before lawyers get involved and drive up the expense. Good luck!
