Lunatic Watch: 2011

Do you ever click on a link, then click on a link, then click on a link, and before you know it, you have fallen down a rabbit hole into a parallel universe, where insanity rules and logic is forbidden?

I do all the time.  Then I like to share it with you, so we can talk about it and analyze it and try and figure out what in the heck is going on in the world.

For instance, because I am a stay-at-home mother to a moderately large family, and like to craft, grow my own food, cook, and do homeschooling activities, I often click on links to what I think are like-minded individuals. But what would you know?  There just aren't that many SAHM, crafting, food-growing, sort-of-homeschooling, chicken-killing, moderately liberal, secular, feminist, thrifty, multiple moms out there.  Where are you guys?

So then I end up on blogs like this one.  She hates homos, faggots, Obama, socialism, abortion, public schools, illegals, and IVF.  Not necessarily in that order.  If you have some time to kill today, click on her IVF label.  She also crafts, eats healthy, has a bunch of kids, and homeschools, so I thought we had a lot in common at first.  I don't mind linking her, because she says right on her blog, "If you don't like what I write about, don't bother leaving comments.  Start your own blog."

What a splendid idea!!!

Fortunately, she doesn't believe women should vote and exercise their authority over men and she'll explain why that is a valid opinion in 1000 or less Bible scriptures.  Does it get better than that?

I've also been noticing in my travels around the internet, the love affair with wifely submission on blogs as of late.  It's like all the new rage to be submissive, and women are jumping on the patriarchal bandwagon.  Have you guys noticed this trend?  The more women write about being doormats and telling you how great it is, showing you cute pictures of their large broods and cute crafts and tasty meals, the more women are thinking this is the answer to their problems.

This is only the answer to your problems if your husband isn't an ASSHOLE, ladies.  I think we can all agree on that one.

I could spend all day pointing you to the crazy stuff I read on the internet.

To one up the Quiverfulls, and their poster family, The Duggars, we now have Vision Forum and their ultra-creepy fundamentalist Christian movement to keep daughters at home, under their father's authority, until they transfer it to their husbands, called the Stay-At-Home-Daughter's movement.  They even have their own documentary, called The Return Of The Daughters.

You wouldn't believe how many of these SAHD's blogs are cropping up these days, beseeching women to forget about college and stay at home with their fathers, until their fathers find them a husband.  Here's one of them.  Is it just me, or do they look older than me?  I cannot believe that men are not standing in line to take on women with no income or education, who don't believe in birth control.  What is wrong with these men?

Maybe it is this quote from the creepy Vision Forum's webpage that is keeping the line from forming for the Stay-At-Home-Daughter.

"He leads her, woos her, and wins her with a tenderness and affection unique to the bonds of father and daughter."

OHMYGOD.  Is that just beyond creepy?  I actually got chills when I read it.  It's like a pedophile movement.  Can you imagine how brainwashed those girls are?  YUCK!!!!!

So what do you gals think of all this?  I think we should do a Lunatic Watch every couple months.  I really enjoyed the last one.   What kind of nonsense have you been reading on the internet lately? Give me some good reading material for this year!  I promise to pay it forward.

This stuff is so scary. Why do people feel the need to control others to such a degree?

  2. Huge pet peeve: when home schooling parents don't use proper grammar.

Huger pet peeve: when they not only don't use proper grammar, but don't use it while criticizing someone else for not using it!

Where can I sign my kids up for THAT?!

  3. Big mistake.
I went to that woman's blog.

Sweet mercy - now my eye is twitching!!

The really sad thing is she sounds just like my sister.

    ReplyDelete
  4. HW- the really scary thing is that her husband is the pastor of a church that the Southern Poverty Law Center has listed as a "hate group".

On the bright side, they don't send their kids to school and she doesn't vote.

  5. I love your posts. I get the biggest chuckle. I went all the way back to your husband taking the kids in for coffee samples and cake. One big belly laugh. I have to stop now because I have been on the computer way too long. In the process I had to clean up dog upchuck because Daisy ate something outside. Knew you can identify. Minding your own business and the dog is getting sick at your feet. Just great. LOL. About this post, fortunately I have not seen it but oh my the last part about the husband taking over the father's role, too much. Yes scary, very scary. Keep writing. Happy New Year from Georgia.

  6. Yep, this stuff is a MESS and VERY pervasive in the homeschooling circles of the south especially. FRUSTRATING!

Their are Christian people speaking out against it though - as there should be.

    http://www.thatmom.com/

is a great place to start, she has some podcasts that flesh out the issues with this movement and her sister blog

    http://truewomanhood.wordpress.com/

have 1000's of posts from women that have been through and out of these groups.

Is another good read, there was a big internet drama a couple of years ago over all of this and this blog is a response to that.

  7. Thanks. I think I'll now be sucked into reading crazies all morning. Oh well. At least there will be drama. :)

  9. Okay.
    I can't leave this alone.

That woman offends me on so many levels.

She offends me as a parent who wants to raise her kids to be tolerant of all people.

She offends me as a Christian who wants to raise her kids to be tolerant of all people (no, we don't all hate homosexuals. And I HATE the word "homo")

She offends me as a mother of a United States Marine. DON'T EVEN get me started.

She offends me as a public school parent who is smart enough and tolerant enough not to lump any group of educators (public, private, home or "un") into one negative group.

She offends me as a human being.

I scrolled through her blog and found mention of a court case against her husband but didn't read through it. Did anybody dare to venture down that road?

  10. Is this the pastor who posted a YouTube video of being pulled over for a burned-out license plate light, then went all crazy ward patient on the cop and thought people would be impressed by his guts to stand up for himself? Yeah, every person who's ever been critical of policemen needs to watch that. I would've tazed his ignorant ass.

    ReplyDelete
  11. Some of the stuff you can find on the internet is just CREEPY! There aren't that many "Normal families" period, let alone SAHM's that do all you do and then some...for instance, I don't hike. -HA! Anyway, my Mom's church still teaches that women are to be subservient to their men, and no women are allowed to lead prayers or participate in church ceremonies unless there are no men present. Even if it's a 6 year old little boy, he would have to lead the prayers. Freaky. I do most of the housework because I'm here, but since I'm 900 years pregnant, I wash it and fold it and my husband takes it up and puts it away - this OUTRAGES my mother. I always tell her things like "So Chris and I had this arguement" and she goes off the handle because she never challenges ANYTHING her husband says. Moron. Anyway, Happy New Year!!!

  12. Hi Michele-

Long time lurker (stalker?). I think your blog is funnier than Dooce, although her dogs are cuter than your chickens.

As a graduate student I am an excellent procrastinator. If you want a whole collection of crazy mom blogs, please go to:

    http://megafamilies.blogspot.com/

This site lists blogs with families that have 7-33 (yes, 33) kids. Some of them are extremely entertaining. Some of them I cannot read anymore because then I want to throw my laptop and write a letter to the editor about the downfall of intelligent people in the world.

One I think many of your readers would enjoy is: http://16blessingsmom.blogspot.com/
She has 16 kids, and most of them live at home! About every other day, she blogs about really wanting another baby. She does send her children to school, but actually allows most of them to skip at least 25% of the year.

    Happy reading!

  13. when I was in Los Angeles I heard talking about the "bible belt", an area in the States....is it where this people come from??

    ReplyDelete
  14. HW and Loren- yes, her husband was arrested and tazed by the cops. It's all on YouTube. The scary thing is that Arizona, where they live, just passed a law in August that ANY person can carry a concealed weapon. You don't even have to register for it. So when the officer asked him if he was carrying a weapon, and he became an obstinate jackass, the officer had every right, in my opinion, to protect himself from this freak.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bJF5cUWXA_A

But watch him get tazed. He has a sermon about "faggots" on YouTube too.

  15. Thanks, Amie and Jana. So much for folding laundry today. :)

  16. My husband was raised in a church that has a very conservative "wing" that says wives should submit to their husbands and the men are the head of the household.

I think it's totally fine for my husband to be the head of our home - as long as he realizes that I'm the neck that turns the head.

Twenty three years and still going strong - living by THAT doctrine in our marriage.....

So your kids got a snow day today? Waiting eagerly for your snow pictures and chicken survival report.

  18. She hates homos AND faggots? Couldn't choose just one, I guess...

  19. We have a lot in common. Take out the sort of homeschooling and I’m right there with ya. Although I don’t currently grow my own food since the neighborhood squirrels eat everything I’ve tried to grow and I don’t currently practice chicken killing, but can promise you I’ve killed more chickens than most people. My dad has chicken houses so I had the great pleasure of spending my teenage years culling, throwing, dragging, burning, and burying chickens. Good times. Take out those 3 currents and we’re a pretty good match.

I also think the whole daughter’s heart belongs to her father crap is super creepy. Like the dad gives the daughter a promise ring thing. Gross!

I mostly read crap on the internet. Not a lot of useful stuff. It’s my gateway from reality most of the time so I like to fill that up with useless knowledge. I’m really into reading the hilarious Amazon reviews as of late.

  20. WOW! She is some kind of special isn't she.. So now I have found more ways to waste my time while my children are at public school(AHHH!)..

Hmm, yes; if they have THOSE sort of views, good thing they teach their daughters not to vote...now if only we could get them to teach their sons not to vote, either...!

  22. I was reading Zsuzanna's (speaking of spelling) blog and while I found it entertaining in a can't look away from the train wreck kinda way, nothing really stood out to me until this comment:

"The same principle applies to charitable acts of kindness, which I'm guessing is the value that parents are trying to instill when they teach their children to "share". What they are really teaching them is Communism"

    Communism? Really? Wow!

    ReplyDelete
  23. Traci- I bet Karl Marx's mother made him share his sippy cup with his sibling. It all makes sense to me now.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Speaking of sharing, I would like to share what the King James Bible says on the subject:

Luke 6:30 Give to every man that asketh of thee; and of him that taketh away thy goods ask [them] not again

Matthew 5:42 Give to him that asketh thee, and from him that would borrow of thee turn not thou away

Proverbs 21:26 ...the righteous giveth and spareth not.

I could go on, but I think this is a good start. I'm sure she could find a loophole, though. If you want you could look it up to read in an easier language. I only posted the KJV because it's all they will even think about looking at.

By the way, I am a Christian, but please don't lump me in with her kind. I think her type of "Christian" gives God a really bad name.

  30. Cristy= is that who she was bashing? I wondered. WHAT A BITCH.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Michele - glad I could help you be a horrible keeper of your home, ;) hehehe.

    Kari - Amen, sista! :)

Seriously though, this stuff makes me want to vomit. It is sad, sad in the same way that I feel sad for the kids that you talk about that get bused into your kids school.

I believe that everyone should have the right to raise their kids however they want, REALLY, I really do - I don't want anyone telling me how to raise my kids.

BUT, this is messing with something more than just "family life choices" this is messing with my religion, and not just that but the way that what Jesus has done for me is viewed. That ticks me off. I won't get all preachy on this blog but no man, no huMAN, is my prophet, priest or king. Jesus is, and when men become infallible or unquestionable, that is blasphemousness.

The thing is I really think that most of these women are the ones driving it and not just that but they are really sincere. They just want what they think is best, it is just so screwed up though.

ANYWAY, yep, it is sad and it is a mess, I have lost friends over this stuff. Sad really.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Oh. My. Word. Where do you find these blogs?!?

    ReplyDelete
  33. Haha, thank you for making me laugh, seriously!

Just one correction, though: I take exception to your assessment that I hate illegals. Nothing could be further from the truth. The whole immigration issue is simply a smoke screen used by neo-conservatives to advance their fascist causes.

I'm sure you can find plenty of other things I hate to replace that one with.

  36. I'm a Bible Christian. I read stevenandersonfamily. I would like to explain that I teach my granddaughter that she should share because the Bible says to be kind. I tell her to share out of kindness not that she has to share like her preschool teaches her-with no explanation- that is socialism. Books you might be interested in reading are- The Way Home by Mary Pride, What He Must Be...If He Wants to Marry My Daughter by Voddie Bauchum and The Marketing of Evil by David Kupelian. I don't understand the hostility. I don't hear anyone mentioning the Amish. As we are respectful to them we should be respectful to Christians who aren't pacifists and feel strongly about things. Before I stopped celebrating Halloween I wasn't hostile to those who had stopped before me. I am an ex-smoker(since age 21) and feel strongly against cigarettes but our society/tv has put a stigma on smoking. Full disclosure: I am a SAHM with 6 children and never practiced birth control because that is our faith-like the Amish. We home educate and attend a Baptist church.

    ReplyDelete
  37. I am old enough to remember when the word used was the Bible word-sodomites. Then I was told that they wanted us to call them gays. The Marketing of Evil documents this. I remember when we said some people were pro-abortion then they wanted us to call them pro-choicers. I don't know what the next thing they will want to be called but I will probably need to be reminded. We don't believe in evolution so, of course, we don't agree with homosexuality/lesbians/whatever and abortion which are related to the theory of evolution. We believe life begins at conception. Our homeschool books that the Christian schools use teach these things(Some of us use Amish and Mennonite books,as well).I look forward to visiting The Creation Museum (answersingenesis). Oh- and I won't make a gyn appointment with the transgender doctor in our doctors' office, only with the women(not transgender) N.P.s. Many would call that hate speech/action. My daughter(20) and her friends agree with me so maybe it will take another generation(of propaganda) to be comfortable with transgenders-is that the right word(?).

  38. Taryn- I bet you still call African-Americans "niggers" then if you are that ancient. I would totally keep doing what you are doing then. I wouldn't want you to kill off the few remaining brain cells left in your head, learning all these big new modern words.

You know what i find so interesting is these 'ladies' don't believe in science based fact BUT if that science based fact SAVES lives then it is OK. Hypocrites and completely ignorant.

    ReplyDelete
  40. I never did say that word. It isn't Bible and I have a beautiful "mixed" granddaughter(11 months). My daughter prefers the word-"mixed". My daughter just told me to say the baby is half Haitian/Jamaican. I heard one person say that he prefers being called-"a person of color". Another person told me he is offended by the term,African-American that he is just American. Voddie Baucham is a "black man" as my "black" son-in-law says.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Taryn- Don't get your panties in a bunch then if somebody offends your grandchild because they didn't take the time to learn the correct term because it was all just "propaganda".

Now, since this is MY blog, I am cutting your ignorant ass off. Go back to the hole you crawled out of and don't let the Bible hit you in the ass.

  42. You would really enjoy catelinden.com. Liberal, feminist, secular, frugal SAHM who intends to homeschool her child and blogs about simple living/frugality/personal improvement...

    I adore her site!

Also thefrugalgirl.com is in much the same vein. She is a Christian homeschooling mom but she doesn't push her beliefs and many of her readers are atheists/other religions. We all get along swimmingly and I like her site as well :)

  44. HaHa--I found you because of the nutty blog. I read her off and on-mostly because of another site that comments on her occasionally. I actually wondered if her church was somehow involved in the AZ shooting. If you go back you can read some of the really hateful things she said about Obama. Things that were encouraging violence. She doesn't have to like Obama-or any political figure-but if she had someone talking about treating her that way-I am sure she would find it scary.

I feel sadly for you. Your life must be lacking substance. You go around poking fun at others who are different than you are. Isn't that the same as someone who would use the word "N*****". Yeah I think so. Same situation. Worry about your son Austin's health, and stop being a bully. lol

    ReplyDelete
  49. Anon- I have no problem bullying hate-mongers. When even the country I live in lists that woman's church as a Hate Group, I think I'm probably on the right track. I think people who teach their children to call people "faggots" are disgusting human beings. She uses her platform to spread hate and I use my platform to point it out. If that makes me a bully, then so be it.

I was talking about SAHD. There is nothing wrong in it. There is nothing wrong with raising your daughters biblically.

There is nothing PEDO about it. Maybe, your Father wasn't there for you. I know mine was not. If I had a good Dad, like most of those girls do, then that might have saved me a lot of heartache.

We still have freedom of religion in this country. These people have the right to live their lives as they wish. Just as you have the right to live yours.

You really need to look inside yourself, because you really do seem sad, or angry.

P.S I am not a SAHD, and I don't know anyone who is.

You don't like when other spread hate, then why are you doing the same for no reason to others just because they're different, again same thing.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Anon- Oh, well then. What you are talking about is even more fucked up than the other crazy one. Teaching women that they have to be one hundred percent reliant on a man, be it father or husband, to have any self worth or meaning is making them virtual slaves. If that father or husband is abusive, they have ZERO opportunity to get out. They have no education to fall back on. They have no real life work experience to get them out of a bad home or marriage. They don't even have the safety net of community, because they are cut off from the real world in their little homeschooling enclaves. The misogynistic patriarchal system is rife with abuse and rife with women who are brainwashed from birth to believe that they have no choice but to live in the small confinement they have been placed.

You are damn right I'm sad and angry. It pisses me off when women are mistreated.
