While we slumbered, Laurie's coworker at AAA worked diligently to find us accomodations and flights home and we have a plan!!!!
Celebrity is allowing us to stay on the boat until Saturday. So, today, we are going to get our sleep-deprived butts up, eat and drink as much food as we possibly can on this boat before disembarkation. Take the train over to Monaco if it is running. If you guys didn't know, France is on strike. Get back. Take a nap. Put on our evening gowns and go to dinner. Heck, we might put all three of our evening gowns on. It's a good goddamn thing I bought those! Those should come in handy while standing around the playground, waiting for the kids to get out of school.
Then on Saturday, we are going to relocate to a beautiful hotel in Nice, for a two day stay. We are thinking we'll take a jaunt over to Cannes one day.
Then on Monday, we fly out of Nice to LAX, then I continue on to Vegas. So I will be home on Monday. I don't get to do Italy. I am so BUMMED.
Celebrity is refunding us the cost of the cruise. Laurie is working on getting us another free cruise in the future.
The old folks, without lap tops and cell phones, are going to be loaded up on a "cattle" train for a 10 HOUR ride back to Barcelona today. Can you imagine how dreadful? We will be so much happier in our beautiful hotel room in Nice.
We are just going to continue vacationing in the French Riviera like the rich and famous with the extra moola we are getting back from the cancelled cruise.
When the going gets tough, it's time to put on your big girl panties, and head to Monaco. Maybe I can double up our euros. No?

ReplyDeleteGood luck!
Chrissy
My mum and dad are both on this cruise. They've just rang me up to explain the situation. I hope that everyone can get home quickly and safely.
ReplyDeletenooooooooooooooooo! seriously??? can't they fix it???
ReplyDeleteIs Greg happy that you are getting all your money back?
ReplyDeleteMonaco and Niece were two of my favorite places when I was in europe. You definitely could have been stranded in worse places!.
ReplyDeleteIt sucks that your vacation was cut short though - I know you were really looking forward to, and needed this break.
Have fun for the next few days!
Big girl panties are so ugly. Give Sebastian a call or email him at "smicheneau at hotmail dot com".
ReplyDeleteHe is the french guy that stayed at your house when we visited you a few yrs ago. He will help you in any way that he can. I am sure that he can tell you what is worth seeing. You have got to go to the discos, even at our age, its a blast. Rob
Noooooo! And I was having SO MUCH FUN going on a virtual vacation with you! My vacation has been ruined!
ReplyDelete:-(
This link has more details and it says the trains are still not running. It's going to be a 10 hr bus ride to Barcelona. Owie!

Thanks for all the tips, you guys. We are in Monaco now, and it is beautiful.
ReplyDeleteWhat a crazy trip your on!
ReplyDeleteThat just sucks, so sad that you will have to return home so early without seeing Italy. Rome is GORGEOUS, hated Venice, but it's one of those you love it or hate it kind of places. If you think the Venetian hotel stinks, you have no idea what it's like in Venice. hahaha My parents went on a Princess cruise line cruise, they said it was fabulous, and they had no problems. They'd never get on anything that wasn't Princess. Seriously though, sorry to hear about the cancelled cruise, enjoy what's left of your getaway!
ReplyDeleteyou sure know how to make lemonade!!!! i feel bad for those nearly deads...10 hour bus ride? awful. :-( glad you are going to make the most of this bad situation. have fun! (i know you will!) (((hugs)))
ReplyDeleteDespite Italy, it sounds like things are turning out alright. You will still have a nice vacation- and a great story to go with it!
ReplyDeleteI am really enjoying your blog. I keep one too and I now it's a lot of work. I hope you continue to make the most of your unexpected adventure - it does make for some good reading!
ReplyDeleteBTW - I have cruised a fair amount on Celebrity and one one occasion we were onboard with the "nearly deads". We always travel with our son and he was facsininated by all the super-grumpies as he called them. On the bright side my husband and I felt like we were the hot young couple on board - and we are in our forties!
Stay safe and hang in there!
