The new carpeting is going down!
I am off the grid and blogging from my phone. Who can type well with their thumbs? I really suck at it.
If anyone saw what was under our old carpet, they would have died. I can't believe we weren't chronically ill or dead or in iron lungs. It was SO DISGUSTING. There was a layer of dirt about an inch thick.
I can't believe I let my babies crawl in that filth. I would have liked to see that dirt in a microscope!! We probably could have sent those dust mites to Ripley's Believe It Or Not!
I can't believe we are putting down MORE CARPET!
I need to know what is the best vacuum that won't cost more than my van? (I once sold vacuums door to door during the summer. Worst job in the world.)
I'm itching and can't breathe today. I slept on a twin mattress on the floor in the kids room last night. All night Sarah would reach over from her mattress and touch me to see if I was still there. Unfortunately I was still there.
I think the dust mites are on me.
I am so done remodeling the house.
Done. Done. Done.
We need to discuss important things, but not with my thumbs. I've been wanting to do a post about why you shouldn't ever use canola oil to start, but all these kids, vacationing, and remodeling is bogging me down.
Tomorrow. Maybe tomorrow.
Michelle,
ReplyDeleteThough you'd never know it when you walk in my house these days - I am a clean freak (there has to be something in my life I can control :-)).
Carpets
I recently sucked it up and bought the Dyson Animal when my other vaccuum died. Worth every penny - I absolutely love it and am sorry I didn't get it sooner.
Tile (you asked about this the othr day)- I use the Shark Ultra Steam Blaster - S3325. I use it for tons of other stuff too besides the floor (bathrooms, counters, etc.). There are also those steam mops that you could use for just the floors. I LOVE cleaning the tile with the steamer - its the only thing I used that really seems to get the floor and grout clean.
I must second the Dyson Animal nomination. I absolutely love mine and dream of the day I can buy a second one for the upstairs.
ReplyDeleteIt actually shames you into purchasing it. I used to vacuum every day so thought for sure my carpets were clean. One use of the Dyson and I was uttering my famous line "Good Lord, we're pigs." My clean freak friend borrowed it once and even HER carpets appeared dirty when she saw what it sucked up.
My only gripe is the color. For the price, I think they should make it look like wood panel or (think Brady Bunch station wagon) or at least stainless. I don't like a purple vacuum. I'm not 12 years old. I want a sophisticated vacuum.
But it is worth every penny, because it really sucks.
Dyson. Definitely the Dyson.
Here is a link to the steamer thing on Amazon. I bought mine at Target but have also seen them at Bed Bath and Beyond.

You have to get the Dyson animal!!! I got mine at bed bath and beyond with a 20% off coupon, I get them every week so let me know if you want a coupon. You would not believe what this thing picks up! It won't cost more than your van but Greg might dovorce you if you get one:)
ReplyDeleteNiki
Do you want me to find out the make/model of vacuums the Coop just bought? They were tested to handle the gravel and everything else that gets dragged in by preschoolers every day. They are commercial and ran in the low 200s. I have a Dyson and missed the self-propelled action, although it does find tons of dirt.
ReplyDeleteDyson Michele Dyson. I have had mine for over 2years which is a miricle in my house. We usually burn everything up within a year but Dyson is great and it is easy to clean out, filters and all.
ReplyDeletewait - why am i not supposed to use canola oil? enquiring minds want to know! :) i mostly use olive oil (or occasionally butter) but i do have a bottle of canola in the pantry.
ReplyDeleteok - you NEED to get to the canola oil facts. I use when I can't use olive oil. Brian can't have vegetable oil because it's all soybean oil.
ReplyDeleteWhat else can I use for cooking? Is corn oil ok??
Your people are waiting for important information Michelle.......
Another vote for the Dyson - I've been using it for over a year now I love it! (Though we don't have carpets anymore!)
ReplyDeleteAnd you are so healthy because of all that dirt. But I know what are takling about, when I deep cleaned our old carpets und poured (??) the water out, I wanted to throw up... But there is nothing better for the kids than a little dirt... ;-))
Anna
Okay, I will TRY to do the canola oil tomorrow but just to tantalize you, have you ever seen a "canola" plant? NO? That's because there is no such plant.
ReplyDeleteI love my Dyson. I don't have hairy animals so, I only have the DC07. I can't imagine how great the Animal is because mine is sooo great and costs $200 less. I have heard raves about the Oreck too. Orecks look so outdated to me though and, they have those gross bags.
ReplyDeleteoh wow...I love my hardwoods floors, and I will NEVER have any carpet again. Maybe a throw rug or two, but never carpet.
ReplyDeleteJust like you, I had carpet, I let my babies crawl on it, roll on it, learn to sit on it...it just grosses me out to see what was underneath it.
I don't know exactly why you are putting carpet again, but if you have a chance to change your mind - do it!
Abby we don't have animals either,so maybe that modell would work for us.
ReplyDeleteAnon, short of divorce or moving into my own house, I cannot get my husband to budge on the carpet issue. He has bad knees from playing football in college - middle guard. Standing on tile or hardwood hurts him. He's had both knees operated on and likely needs knee replacements because the cartilage is fried. Believe me when I say I fought him on it. Who cares about his pain anyway? (I'm KIDDING!) I fought HARD though!

ReplyDeletethis is the one i have. you can use a 20% off coupon too
ANy one use a Kirby?? My sister swears by that thing!!
ReplyDeleteI agree with everyone who said to get a Dyson! We have the Dyson Animal and I am in LOVE with it. We've had it for 3 years now and it still has incredible suction. I could suck one of my children up with that thing!
ReplyDeleteAnd I am anxiously awaiting your post about canola oil. We use it sometimes for baking.
Michele, I have the Dyson Animal AND Ball! Get the one that has both (regardless if you own a pet or not!). I second the 20% off coupon from Bed Bath and Beyond. I just gave my aunt and uncle coupons to get one for themselves and one for their daughter. With the coupon, it's about $480 but maybe it will go on sale soon? They are worth it! I wouldn't get one without the ball. My mom got the animal right before they came out with the ball. She was jealous when she tried mine.
ReplyDeleteI was just so sick of replacing cheaper vacuums. I thought I might as well go for the gold and have it last forever.
As for the Kirby, my aunt has had the same one for 30 years. However, it's just old and klunky and you have to buy special bags for it. I don't know much about their newer models, but it's a great company, too!
I would say that all the Dyson Animal lovers cannot be wrong. Get it quick!
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely get the Dyson Animal. Especially with new carpets. We moved in to our new house and had carpet fuzz from hell. My trips had just started crawling and we were removing carpet fuzz from their mouths all day. Then the fuzzy carpet burned up my old vaccuum and we got the Dyson. What a huge difference. I can't believe everything that it sucks up.
ReplyDeleteWe just went on a playdate to my friend's new house. She was complaining because all her hardwood and tile was constantly dusty. We told her it was carpet fuzz and to get the Dyson. She took our advice and can already see the difference after just one use. We did the 20% off coupon too.

Ok, I lurk here quite a bit and I LOVE your blog. We have boy/girl twins and I learn tons from your experience. Thanks for sharing. I think it is mostly too late to change, HOWEVER, cork flooring -- with a cork pad underneath it. It is incredibly giving and soft so it won't hurt Greg's knees and it is hypoallergetic (sp?) and wears incredibly well. Our twins, 1 dog and 2 cats have not been able to harm it and our twins ride their wooden horses on it all the time. Recently they have been into "bouncing" their horses across the floor and -- still, no problem. If you can change to cork -- you will LOVE it. It also looks great.
ReplyDeleteI've never even heard of the Dyson Animal. But maybe that's because I don't have carpet. I do have a Kirby though and I love it. It was A LOT more than $500 though so I doubt there's anyway I'll talk my husband into getting a new vacuum anytime soon...
ReplyDeleteAnd Michelle, I really want to hear about Canola oil. I heard it was actually healthier for you than olive. Wasn't too reputable a source though. I'm anxious to hear what you have to say about it so get on that will ya!? :-)
I e-mailed you the CR vacuum ranking.
